New to Chiropractic?

A gentle and effective hands-on method of adjusting the bones of your body to improve the alignment of your skeleton and help the nervous system to work more efficiently.

If you are new to chiropractic care, your first session is all about safety – making sure it is safe and appropriate for you to receive chiropractic care. Your chiropractor will initially ask quite comprehensive questions about how you use your body in everyday life, your general health and any previous and current symptoms you are experiencing.

Your chiropractor will then examine you and will usually ask you to undress down to your underwear for all, or part of the examination, and for the treatment. A changing area and a gown are always provided, but do tell your chiropractor if you feel uncomfortable about undressing. In some circumstances, it may be possible to treat you in light-weight clothing but we can’t treat you effectively through jeans. One of the many things that we also look for are any skin changes on the back of you that could indicate the need for you to be referred to your GP, which could be difficult for you to see, even in a mirror.

Your chiropractor will discuss the results with you and if they feel any further investigation is necessary they will discuss this with you and can also liaise with your GP or other healthcare providers if you give your permission for them to do so. Your chiropractor will also explain the benefits of chiropractic care to you, any significant risks associated with your problem, and agree on a treatment plan with you based on what the problem is, how long you have had it, and the original cause.

Most patients respond exceptionally well and quite quickly, and most problems can often be fully resolved with around 4-6 treatments. Everybody is unique and some patients respond more quickly, or slower than others.

With your consent, your chiropractor will then treat you, using the uniquely light, swift and accurate adjustments associated with the McTimoney techniques, adjusting your whole body as appropriate. Your chiropractor may also include some soft tissue (massage) work, or other similar techniques if this is appropriate.

Treatment is very much a partnership between you and your McTimoney Chiropractor

After your treatment, your chiropractor will explain any exercises that you need to do to help yourself get better as quickly as possible, together with any associated posture and ergonomic advice related to your lifestyle/job.
